English Translation of Al-Quran

[7]. Surah Al-Araaf [The Heights]

Ayat 197. "And those whom you call upon besides Him (ALLAH) cannot help you nor can they help themselves."
Ayat 198. And if you call them to guidance, they hear not and you will see them looking at you, yet they see not.

English Translation of Hadith

Abu Hurairah :anha: said: The Messenger of ALLAH :pbuh: said, "He who takes an oath and involuntarily says: `By Al-Lat and Al-`Uzza' should at once affirm: `La ilaha illallah (there is no true god except ALLAH)', and he who says to his companion: `Come let's gamble' should make expiation by giving something in charity.''
[Al-Bukhari Hadith # 4860 and Muslim Hadith # 1647].

Lesson:

As mentioned above in Surah Al-Araaf Ayat 197. "And those whom you call upon besides Him (ALLAH)" Al-Lat and Al-`Uzza were the idols of the polytheists of Arabia. To take oath or swear by them or by anything else besides ALLAH :subhan: is an act of disbelief which takes one out of the fold of religion.
